New Light
New Light
Edward has captured a moment where Samantha stands confidently on a boulder at Maroubra, watching the slow formation of waves and the subtle energy gathering around her. The ocean appears still at first glance, yet dark clouds begin to rise behind her, drifting toward the headland. Her red sweater and black pants create a deliberate contrast against the cool blues and greys of the sea. She looks back toward the headland, becoming an anchor in the composition, a quiet point of steadiness within the shifting landscape.
This headland has always fascinated me. I usually surf only a few hundred metres from where Samantha is standing, so painting this scene felt like stepping into a familiar place from a new vantage point. To me, it’s a quiet observation of life: watching the ocean, the surfers, the changing weather, and the new light.
