Artist Biography
Edward Jack Humphrey (b. 1998) is a Sydney-born visual artist working on Gamaragal land. A graduate of the National Art School (2019), his practice draws on the figure and Australian landscapes, using oil paint to merge these influences into contemporary compositions. He has been a finalist in major art prizes such as the Archibald Prize (2020) and the Salon des Refusés (2018), among other prizes. He held two solo exhibitions at Gallery 11:11 in 2023 and 2024, which established his practice in portraiture and figurative work, and his work is held in private collections across Australia. Since then he has worked at Michael Reid Gallery Sydney, where, alongside gallery directors and leading Australian artists, he has built a thorough understanding of how exhibitions are developed, presented and sold.
