The Presence
The Presence
Eleni glows in the last light, her figure held gently by the muted landscape and the spray of waves rising around her like a quiet chorus. In that moment I saw a glimpse of hope.
There is an intimacy to this artwork that comes from my long pull toward the romanticists. I depict the landscape the way I truly see it: where light and darkness dance with each other, and beauty is inseparable from the sublime.
Breaking the image into four panels allowed me to pay attention to the shifts in light, the movement of water, and the subtle changes in her posture. The panels create a rhythm, a kind of breathing space, where the viewer can move through the artwork the way I absorbed the moment as it unfolded.
Building a friendship with Eleni became the backbone of this artwork. It isn’t just about a figure in a landscape; it’s about the trust, curiosity and shared creative spirit that shaped the moment. In a way, the piece is as much about her presence as it is about the landscape, both reflecting back something I’m learning to see more clearly in myself.
