This portrait of Courtney was captured near a blue light that illuminated her face and cast it in soft, pastel hues. Inspired by Gerhard Richter’s blurred portraiture, Edward conveyed light and movement through dynamic abstract lines applied with a roller brush. These rolled marks form a fractured texture that reflects both the fragility and strength in her expression, while also enhancing the piece with a dreamlike, introspective quality.
