Passing of Time
Passing of Time
This drawing depicts a young woman lying on the grass by Sydney Harbour, with the rugged cliffs of Gore Cove in the background. This relaxed pose of his subject immediately called Salvador Dalí’s The Persistence of Memory to mind, and particularly the iconic melting face that almost resembles a draped figure dissolving into the land. In this piece, the subject is at one with the earth, where the breeze whispers, light rests gently on her skin, and birds sing in the sky. She plucks at the blades of grass, lost in thought. Between consciousness and sleep, she drifts away into a quiet meditation on memory, nature, and the soft passing of time.
