This charcoal portrait captures a young girl’s soft, romantic expression. Edward was inspired by Arinze Stanley’s technically detailed drawings and his remarkable ability to convey emotion and personality. Moved by this approach, Edward set out to capture the authentic, emotional presence of his own subject. Using charcoal to sculpt her features, he allowed the natural whites of the paper to illuminate her form. Rapid, abstract marks surround the portrait, adding a sketch-like quality that embraces the spontaneity and rawness of the medium.
