Edward found deep inspiration in Katsushika Hokusai’s The Great Wave off Kanagawa, particularly its luminous and striking color palette. Yet, unlike the controlled chaos and moment of suspense in Hokusai’s wave, Edward sought to illustrate a moment of uplift and happiness. Applied with loose, expressive brushstrokes, the blues ripple across the canvas, creating a sense of fluidity and motion that mirrors the ever-changing nature of water.
