Blue Moon
Blue Moon
Edward painted a portrait of Rose, capturing her within the Queen Victoria Building. The vast interior of the QVB was alive with atmosphere: a pianist playing classical music, while the space was crowned by stained-glass windows, Romanesque archways, and vaulted ceilings. The beautiful architecture featured white pillars and ornate gold detailing, set against bright contemporary red and blue walls.
Capturing Rose in a well-lit spot was a challenge, as the lighting seemed to spill from all directions. However, as she walked up the staircase, Edward captured a singular moment when Rose’s expression held a remarkable depth of character, confidence and inner strength. He felt the deep blue hue of the wall behind her delicately complemented her expression, creating a compelling and interesting tronie portrait, a study focused intensely on the face and expression.
